TEACHING AT AUA BANG SAENAUA Bangsaen was established in 1996 and has grown into a school with between 500 and 650 students per term. The school is situated on the beautifully landscaped grounds of Burapha University, which is only a short walk from the beach. The town of Bangsaen is only a ninety minute bus ride east of Bangkok. Another thirty-five kilometers or forty-five minutes on a bus and you're at the famous beach resort of Pattaya. There is an AUA sub-branch located in Pattaya which averages about 300 students per term. At AUA Bangsaen there is constantly work for 6 full-time teachers and an occasional need for a part-time teacher. There is work for four full-time teachers and one part-timer at Pattaya. Burapha University provides a strong student base for AUA at Bangsaen. However, there are also a lot of business people and housewives as well as some unemployed. At Pattaya, the many businesses and industries in the district provide a large percentage of the students. There is also a mix of government workers, students and the unemployed. AUA Bangsaen runs three 70-minute evening classes Monday through Thursday. The classes start at 5:15 PM, 6:35 PM and 7:55 PM. Saturday / Sunday classes are 90 minutes each and commence at 9:00 AM, 12:15 PM and 3:00 PM. Writing and other special courses are also offered on both weekdays and weekends. The schedule at Pattaya is the same for weekdays, but weekend classes are conducted over ten weeks, each class being three hours. The timetable is 8:30 AM, 12:15 PM. and 3:30 PM. The standard AUA year is broken up into seven, six-week terms, with a week off between terms. New teachers usually start on a rate of between 210 to 260 baht per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, and can progress to the maximum rate of 305 baht. Full time teachers at Bangsaen usually work a thirty-hour, six-day week. Weekend work is paid at time and a third times the teacher's base rate. Pattaya's teachers average twenty-four hours per week. Bangsaen has a variety of accommodation at reasonable rates. You can rent a condo for around 3,000 to 5,000 baht per month, or if you prefer, you can lease a house near the beach. There are many fine restaurants to choose from. If you enjoy freshly caught seafood, you're in for a treat. For those who prefer Thai food, you can eat very cheaply near the University. Pattaya, being an international, tourist resort, caters to every culinary need at all prices. There is also a variety of first class entertainment and nightlife in Pattaya. Having a week off every six weeks gives teachers ample time to see the many sights and attractions that bring tourists in their thousands to the Eastern Seaboard Resorts of Bangsaen and Pattaya. There are too many attractions to mention them all, however a visit to the Tiger Zoo or the Crocodile Farm should be high on the agenda. For the more adventurous, there's always scuba diving, para-sailing or jet-skiing. If golf is the way you like to spend your leisure time, there are a number of courses close-by or you can just laze on the beach and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle.
